She walked in on Wednesday morning after driving to the shop on her own for the first time (congrats on that!) She found an idea for a project she had in mind and decided to do the Mixed Media Madness workshop first thing the next day. Maria Mahiat thus sat for a few hours at our mixed media workshop, trying something new. While we were at it, she told us of her experience at the SA Scrapbook Convention. It is the largest convention of its kind on the African continent, with 700 participants in Johannesburg and 400 in Cape Town this year, if we’re not mistaken.

Maria is a seasoned scrapper who favors bright vivid colors for her layouts. Her preference for such colors reflects her equally colorful and cheerful personality. She is the kind of lady who doesn’t shy from trying something outside of her comfort zone. Here is what she came up with during the mixed media workshop and her layouts from the SA Scrapbook Convention that she was happy to share with us.

This mixed media layout is part of a gift scrapbook for Maria’s goddaughter. Maria included many of her goddaughter’s favorite things as design elements such as butterflies, glitter, and the colors pink and purple.

What a super idea! Maria’s SA Scrapbook Convention Pass was a passport themed booklet that included the pictures of the workshop instructors and a written preview of each workshop. What a cool keepsake!

This is Maria’s Simple Stories double page layout. It featured a lot of hidden journaling and photo surfaces that could really maximize the number of photos that could fit in the spread. An instant fave for us!

Maria’s Art Deco layout features family and a host of techniques that are littered all over the pages. They layout creates a charming showcase for photos of grandma and grandpa.  Well done, Maria!

Maria’s favorite layout is this Bobunny spread that makes use of bright, summery colors. The vividness of the paper makes this layout simply fun! There is a surprise journaling element here that makes use of the popsicle sticks.

Drop by our Facebook pictures to more of the fun features of these pages. Also, check out Maria’s Mixed Media Madness workshop here.

We hope you are as inspired by Maria as we are to keep on scrapping. Look forward to more featured scrappers on our blog in the near future!
